Do you put sunscreen obsessively on yourself and your kids at all times? Do you know that you need at least 15 to 20 minutes of sunshine without sunblock for normal vitamin D levels in your body? My whole family is using sunblock, but we use it wisely. Some ingredients in common sunscreens may do more harm than good.
The chemicals are absorbed through the skin, the largest organ of our body, and add to an overall toxicity that we are trying to avoid. Read about it and decide for yourself but here are my rules for using sunscreen: I try to put little or none during early morning and late afternoon hours, but do apply it during 10 to 4 hours after I give my skin 15 minutes in the sun to get my vitamin D. We do not apply sunscreen on the whole body, but try to cover up like using a long sleeve tops for swimming in the summertime. Use the least toxic sunscreen your afford and do your research before purchase!
